The EEOC's Milwaukee district office brought this suit against Specialty Care Services, d/b/a West Park Place on May 11, 2004 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it discriminated based on sex (female) and pregnancy by terminating a female employee when she returned from maternity leave. The parties entered into a consent decree on October 5, 2004, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainant $9,000 in damages, post a notice of compliance with Title VII, provide Title VII training to its supervisory staff, maintain records of disciplinary actions taken against employees, report disciplinary actions to the EEOC for the duration of the consent decree, and allow the EEOC to enter the defendant's premises to review the defendant's disciplinary records.
