The Philadelphia Office of the EEOC filed this action in March 2003 in the District Court for the District of New Jersey. The defendant was Burns International Security Services, a security guard and security system provider. The controversy involved the alleged sexual harassment of a female employee, and subsequent demotion of that employee which was allegedly a result of her complaints. The lawsuit was eventually resolved by consent decree in June of 2004. The complainant, who did not intervene in the case, was awarded $9,000 and the guarantee of a neutral job reference. In addition, the Defendant had to perform two EEO training sessions and post a Notice for two years.
