The EEOC's Miami district office sued Francisco Baldor School, a private school in Miami, on June 22, 1998 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Miami. The EEOC's complaint alleged that Francisco violated Title VII when it discriminated against one of its employees based on sex (female) by failing to complete the hiring of and discharging a female teacher because of her pregnancy. The parties entered into a consent decree on August 27, 1999 which stipulated that the defendant would pay the aggrieved employee $3,650 in damages and report to the EEOC's Miami office should it open another school during the duration of the consent decree.
