Case Summary

The EEOC's Baltimore district office sued The NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc. on April 27, 2006 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. The EEOC's complaint alleged that NASDAQ violated Title VII and the Equal Pay Act when it discriminated based on race (African American) and gender (female) by failing to appropriately promote and pay one of its employees adequately. The parties entered into a consent decree on August 31, 2006 which stipulated that NASDAQ would pay the aggrieved employee $75,000 in damages and backpay, increase the aggrieved employee's salary to $100,369, conduct Title VII and EPA training for its managerial staff, and semiannually report complaints of violations of the EPA and Title VII to the EEOC.

The decree was entered in 2006 and scheduled to last 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
