The Memphis District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Nike, Inc., in May of 1999, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. The suit alleged discrimination based on race and retaliation for complaining of this discrimination. The only two documents available were the docket from PACER and the consent decree, which mentioned that the discrimination was against both black and white employees. The suit was resolved by a consent decree in just over 6 months.
The consent decree contained monetary and injunctive relief. Nike paid $20,000 to 7 employees. In addition they were to pay $15,000 to train their managers at the Memphis facility. The remainder of the injunctions were to train managers, post notice of this settlement for 60 days, and to refrain from discrimination and retaliation based on race and race based complaints.
