The Dallas District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Houda Inc., doing business as University Shell Center, in May 1997, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The suit alleged that Houda Inc., discriminated against the complainant based on his age, 82, and discharged him from his job, in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 ("ADEA"). The parties settled and the suit was resolved with a consent decree in September 1997. The complainant was given $12,500, his employment record was expunged to show that he voluntarily resigned, and Houda was required to give a neutral reference with regard to future employers asking about the complainant. In addition the defendant agreed to not violate the ADEA as well as allow the EEOC to notify the manager of its University Shell Center of the ADEA requirements.
