In December 1999, the Houston District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Seapac, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. We do not have a copy of the complaint, but it appears from the final judgment that the complaint alleged discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After two settlement conferences and some discovery, the two parties settled the case in January 2001.
The agreed final judgment, containing non-discrimination and non-retaliation clauses, required the defendant to pay the charging party $10,000 and to designate an EEO Coordinator to investigate all internal EEO complaints. In addition, the defendant agreed to: establish a private phone line for receiving EEO complaints, notify employees of their rights, post a notice of rights, and provide annual Title VII training for its managers.
