The EEOC's Wilmington district office sued Comcast Corporation, a Pennsylvania corporation which owns Comcast Cablevision of Willow Grove, and Comcast Cable Communications, a Delaware corporation that is a national supplier of cable services, on June 17, 2004 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. The EEOC's complaint is unavailable, however an EEOC litigation settlement report describes the EEOC's causes of action. Allegedly, Comcast discriminated against the intervenor employee, who intervened in August 2004, based on race (African American) and sex (female) by failing to consider her for promotion and that they retaliated against her. The parties entered into a settlement decree on October 27, 2004, which stipulated that Comcast would pay the intervenor $350,000 in damages, prohibit future discrimination, provide Title VII compliance training to its supervisory and managerial staff, and ensure that its supervisory and managerial staff ensure compliance with Title VII in the workplace.
