In March 2005, the Detroit District Office of the EEOC filed suit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The suit alleged that the defendant, Baker's Keyboard Lounge, violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by firing a female employee in retaliation for her complaints of harassment by a customer.

The trial date was postponed several times. Eventually, in May of 2007, the EEOC voluntarily dropped the suit; their reasons for doing so are unknown.
