The EEOC's Detroit district office sued General Motors Corporation, a national auto manufacturer, and the United Automobile, Aircraft and Agricultural Implement Workers of America Local 909, a local union to which the aggrieved employee belonged, on September 29, 2000 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The EEOC's complaint alleged that GM and the UAW violated the Americans with Disabilities Act when they discriminated against the aggrieved employee by failing to accommodate his disability (unspecified) on the assembly line. The EEOC sought both injunctive relief to prevent this form of discrimination in the future and monetary relief for the aggrieved employee. The parties entered into two separate consent decrees, in December 2000 and January 2001, the contents of which are unavailable.
