The New York District Office of the EEOC brought this action in the U.S. Distrcit Court for the Eastern District of New York, against Papillion Salons & Co., Inc., a salon located in Manhattan, and related businesses. The complaint, filed in May 2002, alleged age discrimination in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967. Specifically, the complaint alleged that Defendant terminated the charging party from her employment as a receptionist because of her age, which was over forty.

The parties settled and agreed to a consent decree in September 2005. The Defendant no longer operated the salon in NY, but agreed that if it ever operated a hair salon in NY in the future, it would (1) no later than 90 days after opening, provide a 2 hour anti-discrimination training for all staff with 2 additional hours for management; (2) submit to the EEOC, no later than 45 days after opening, biographical information regarding the identity of the trainer and the proposed agenda for the training; (3) post a notice of non-discrimination; and (4) submit a non-discrimination policy to the EEOC for review, and maintain that policy.

The decree was entered in 2005 and scheduled to last 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
