The Detroit District Office of the EEOC brought this action in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, against Daimler Chrysler Corporation, an international automobile manufacturer. The complaint, filed in September 2001, alleged religious discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that Defendant did not provide a reasonable accommodation to the religious practices of the charging party and discharged her because her religious beliefs conflicted with employment requirements. Defendant moved for summary judgment, but in August 2002, the parties settled before the Court decided the motion.

The Settlement Agreement contained (1) a non-discrimination provision; (2) a non-retaliation provision; and (3) a provision requiring Defendant to provide a mandatory training program, focusing on federal equal employment opportunity laws, to all Human Resource personal at its Warren, Michigan facility. Defendant also paid $27,500.00 to the charging party.
