On Aug. 28, 2013, this same-sex couple filed a writ of mandamus in state district court for the county of Los Alamos, New Mexico. The plaintiffs asked the court to compel the county clerk to issue them a marriage license.
On Aug. 29, 2013, the court (Judge Sheri Raphaelson) issued the writ of mandamus and ordered the county clerk to issue the marriage license.
On Sept. 3, 2013, the county requested a stay of the writ while they appealed.
This case was resolved by the New Mexico Supreme Court's December 19, 2013 decision in the case Griego v. Oliver, which held that the state's constitution required the issuing of marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
