On September 21, 1982, under 42 U.S.C § 1983, suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against St. Landry Parish, Louisiana officials, concerning the population at the St. Landry Parish Jail. According to the PACER docket, a Stipulation and Consent Decree was filed the same day and the case was closed.

Subsequently, another Stipulation and Consent Decree was filed on August 8, 1983. The sheriff, fire marshal, and health officer for St. Landry Parish agreed to population specifications regarding the new St. Landry Parish Jail. Specifically, the parties agreed to the maximum number of incarcerated individuals housed in each cell block on the facility's three floors. The Decree also included staffing requirements for the new jail, outlining the number of guards to be on duty for each floor. The court (Judge Frank J. Polozola) entered the Decree on August 9, 1983.

On January 10, 1985, the parties filed an Amended Consent Decree, approved by the court (Judge Polozola) the same day. This Amended Decree adjusted the number of people permitted on each floor, and it included guidelines for the number of guards to be on duty in proportion to the number of people incarcerated at the jail at any given time.

On August 4, 1994, the case was reopened. According to the PACER docket, on August 30, 1995, the court granted a motion for a new Consent Decree and approved an Amended Stipulation, permitting a total of eight people to be housed at the Sunset City Jail. The case was closed on December 27, 1997.

We have only the docket, Consent Decree and Amended Consent Decree on file, so we have no further information on this case.
