In April 2005, attorneys representing individuals who were blind or visually impaired entered into structured negotiations with Equifax Information Services LLC ("Equifax"), Experian Information Solutions, Inc. ("Experian"), and TransUnion LLC ("TransUnion"). In September 2005, the parties entered into a settlement agreement.
Under the terms of the agreement, three credit report companies agreed to take affirmative steps to make sure that blind people could read the credit reports that they received from these companies. On-line reports were to meet standards set by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium. Credit reports would also be made available in Braille, Large Print, and on audio CD. The agreement was signed with the American Council of the Blind (ACB), the California Council of the Blind (CCB), and other blind people.
As of December 31, 2008, credit reports are now available from all three credit reporting companies in accessible formats.
