On December 8, 1993, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the Board Cherokee County Commission under 42 U.S.C. § 2000e, et seq. ("Title VII") in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. The Department of Justice complaint sought injunctive relief; a proposed settlement was filed concurrently.
