On August 29, 1994, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the City of Winter Haven under 42 U.S.C. § 2000e, et seq. ("Title VII") in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. The Department of Justice asked the court for injunctive and monetary relief, alleging that the defendant had violated Title VII, by discriminating on the basis of gender.
On October 13, 1994, the District Court (Judge Ralph W. Nimmons Jr.) entered an order which approved the Consent Decree, which awarded the employee $3,430.90 in damages.
