Case Summary

On June 7, 1996, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed an employment discrimination lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against the New York City Police Department.

On September 4, 1996, the District Court (Judge Michael B. Mukasey) granted the motion of a woman who sought to intervene as a plaintiff. The defendant settled with the intervenor-plaintiff on August 16, 1997, agreeing to pay her $320,000.

On June 19, 1998, the court entered the settlement agreement between the DOJ and the defendant. The court retained jurisdiction for the duration of the agreement for enforcement purposes.

On April 8, 2002, the case was dismissed.
